The Perseverance of Biblical Preaching

From Famine in the Land, by Steven Lawson:

No doubt, Satan did everything he could to discourage Timothy from proclaiming the Word. So, Paul wrote, “Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery” (4:14). The veteran apostle called his young disciple to persevere in his ministry—no matter what! Such endurance in preaching involves several marks: a strong commitment, a spiritual gift, and supportive affirmation.

This week, we’ll take a look at each of the marks mentioned above, starting tomorrow with a strong commitment.

A reformation is as much needed now as in Luther's day, and by God's grace we shall have it, if we trust in Him and publish His truth...We want such a one as Martin Luther to rise from his tomb. If Martin were now to visit our so-called reformed churches, he would say with all his holy boldness "I was not half a reformer when I was alive before, now I will make a thorough work of it."
