He's Sovereign over the Enemy

Perhaps the greatest misconception of God’s sovereignty concerns His dealings with Satan. Some view God and Satan as two heavyweight boxers in the ring, fighting it out, with God barely prevailing in the last round by a split decision.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. By the very definition of the word, there can be only one sovereign. Victorious in every realm of His dealings with Satan, God has decisively trounced the devil, making him an already defeated foe, under the sure sentence of judgment. In short, the battle is all but over, and the outcome has been decided!

As a defeated foe, Satan has been cast down from heaven (Luke 10:18), cursed in the Garden (Genesis 3:15), defeated at the cross (Colossians 2:15), and is awaiting his execution at the final judgment (Revelation 20:10). Until then, God exercises absolute authority over the devil, monitoring and regulating his every move, using him more as a mere pawn to accomplish His own eternal purposes.

He who does not kill sin along the way is making no progress in his journey...the vigour, and power, and comfort of our spiritual life depends on the mortification of the deeds of the flesh.".
